Doing what I love and seizing the moment.... without expectation! Not something that has happened quickly for me, but I will say this, when your passionate about something its easy to get caught up with the expectation that you should do better or even some how control whats impossible and out of reach. Well I'm out here shooting on the beach in the sand, barefoot with the water rushing between my toes with the setting sun beaming at me and I should be having the time of my life right.? I would have this grand vision of what a scene would look like and that I would capture it under all the right conditions. Yeah no......that's not how it works. Mother Nature is not something I have control over. Not that I would actually expect weather to cooperate, but when I would set out to get exactly what I saw in my own head and it didn't pan out I would walk away somewhat disappointed. I can honestly say this feeling is behind me. Ive learned to accept and ENJOY whatever comes my way while out shooting and to make the best of it. I think the expectation now is focused on having fun and being in the moment. Forget fear of what may not be and just go with the flow. No expectation = no stress.
Off with the wide and on with the zoom! Foggy, misty scenes are definitely one of my more favorite things to photograph. I tend to shoot wide all the time, but what about those scenes that can't be reached without a telephoto. As my artistic eye wanders, so does my camera. Driving down the Olympic Coast, I spotted this scene from the road. The fog making its way through the trees really added to the overall feel of this scene.
