Photography to me isn't about getting the perfect shot. Sure ...it's easy to get wrapped up and obsess over getting that exemplary image, but for me...it's about how I got there...what I saw... and how I felt in that very moment. An image is a memory for me...and this one I will never forget. Staring off in the distance from a nearby mountain peak...holding my 10 year old daughter next to me as we sip on our hot chocolate...bundled up imagining what was here millions of years ago...
Watching and waiting patiently. A familiar routine for any photographer shooting a sunset or sunrise. My good friend Jon and I hiked up this small yet picturesque peak overlooking the alluring shores on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Unsure of exactly how to get here, we set out an hour ahead of schedule. So we had some time on our hands upon arriving. We explored some different trails, had some good conversation, and enjoyed a nice beverage while waiting to see what would come of this evenings sunset. At first we had our sights set on a more popular composition...a crescent shoreline backed with mountain peaks in the distance. Well....the color did not reach that part of the sky unfortunately, but luckily a group of people changed seats and our focus shifted. It was almost instant and in sync as our cameras turned toward the setting sun.
